The Speed of K-beauty
As I am slowly learning the hurdles of managing K. Yeppuda's online storefront, I am beginning to realize how fast k-beauty trends are moving. I have always known that to an extent but was unaware of just how quickly products and ingredients are constantly changing. Brands are constantly improving ingredients to more natural and desirable options, all aiming to solve the same few issues that persist in skin care today. So I've gone ahead and compiled a list of long-running winners to narrow down the few items that are true to it's kind, and delivers a promise for many k-beauty fans around the world, year after year.
Let's take a look at some of the must-haves over the years:
2016 - Missha Signature Essence Cushion - this item has hit the top list for several years in a row. Missha's cushion today has evolved but it still delivers a long-lasting and flawless coverage for many skin types. It also includes SPF 50 to provide sun and aging protection.
2016 Etude House Moistfull Collagen Emulsion - Etude House was early in the collagen game with its Moistfull Collagen line, it was such a hit, that there are now so many products available for different purposes - ranging from Moistfull Collagen Cream, Eye Cream, Sleeping Pack and more.
2016 COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid - is actually still around today. It aims to clean pores and remove all the dirt off your skin. COSRX is also known for all its eco-friendly and cruelty-free products.
2017 Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Mask Sheet - Innisfree 16-sheet mask collection was made to cover all skin types and issues. Fairly inexpensive, these masks were made for the 30-day sheet mask treatment to provide a moisturizing and soothing effect, offering deep hydration and nutrients to your skin.
2017 Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence - makes several lists in 2017 as being one of the best essence available. The snail mucus was meant to smooth out skin and fade out scars and poor pigmentation. For more moisture, try the sister cream - Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream.
2017 Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Cream - no one has forgotten this product yet, and I'd say it has been 2 years, but its popularity is still going strong. Remaining as Dr. Jart+ top-selling item, this cream soothes and calms irritated skin.
2017 Laneige Water Sleeping Masks - It's so hard to believe that this product came out so long ago, but it was widely popular and remains so till today. If you haven't heard of it, you are definitely missing out. This overnight, moisture-recharging gel mask quickly absorbs into your skin while you sleep to deeply hydrate it leaving it feeling refreshed and incredibly soft when you wake up.
2018 Banila Co Cleansing Balm - Banila Co's cleansing balm was one of Allures top must-haves as it melts away that stubborn and tough makeup without drying out your skin with harsh chemicals. If you wear tons of waterproof eyeliners and mascaras, this is something you have to try.
2018 Mamonde Rose Water Toner - is made up of 90.97% rose water instead of regular water. This hydrating beauty water offers dull skin deep hydration and is free from oils and synthetic coloring.
A few honorable mentions goes to Mizon All-in-One Snail Repair Cream, Lagom Cellus Sun Gel, Neogen Real Ferment Micro Essence, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Pack.
This list was very difficult to compile, as I am nearly positive that I left off half of everyone's favorite items. Korean skincare products have been around for some time, but they are just beginning to turn heads and are now being stocked on shelves at major U.S. beauty chains like Sephora and Ulta. We are just getting started here, and I am sure there will be plenty more good stuff coming our way. I can't wait to see the winners of 2019.
